Heart palpitation is a condition which causes you to become aware of your own heartbeats. It could be termed as an abnormality of heartbeat. Heart palpitation is a common situation that everyone experiences but when it happens frequently, it’s more likely a problem that should be investigated by a doctor.

Causes of heart palpitation

The most common causes of heart palpitation are alcohol, smoking, caffeine, panic attacks and drugs. The unusual causes of palpitations are ectopic beat or otherwise known as cardiac ectopy and diseases. Heart palpitation also occurs during blood loss, while exercising that creates shortage of oxygen in the body, an injury resulting in excessive pain and when anti-depressants are consumed.

Symptoms of heart palpitations

A person experiencing heart palpitations is not aware of anything happening in the surrounding but fully aware of only his own heartbeats. Some symptoms of palpitations are either momentary or prolonged. Common symptoms are shortness of breath, dizziness, pain in arms and legs that lasts for more than few hours and blackouts that requires medical examination.

People who have been experiencing blackouts or near blackouts, should take it seriously and consult a doctor immediately as blackouts often indicate presence of a heart disease.

Diagnosis of heart palpitations

It’s not easy to diagnose palpitations. When you visit a doctor you may not be experiencing palpitations and you will not be able to reproduce the conditions under which palpitations occur to you. In most cases, ECG and blood tests are conducted for diagnosis. Some patients are recommended longer ECG monitoring which usually lasts for 24 hours or longer and a certain type of ECG monitoring device is used to record the abnormal cardiac rhythm for further analysis. ECG is particularly helpful in findings a heart murmur or an abnormality of heartbeat that could point to the probable diagnosis.

Treatment of heart palpitations

The treatment of palpitation depends entirely on the underlying causes. Some patients experience palpitations when they consume anti-depressants. In this case, the treatment requires lower consumption of anti-depressants. Likewise, some patients experience palpitations when they consume coffee and hence the treatment requires caffeine intake reduction. Depending on the blood test results, the required treatment is given to the patients.

If palpitations occurs with blackouts or near blackouts, it should be taken seriously and a doctor must be consulted immediately.

Since last year I started having a breathing problem. Whenever I am in a cold area, such as office or home or in car with AC on, my nose seems to develop congestion and I start running short of breathing. I am also having to start using my mouth to breath whenever I feel that I need more air. Also, I can’t speak for more than couple of minutes but if I do, I run out of breath in almost no time.

A CT scan revealed that I had Ethmoid Sinusitis and Deviated Nasal Septum. I was shocked to know this! I never had any problem since my childhood, then how come I develop this problem now? I understand the deviated nasal septum part of the problem as over 80% of people have this but it doesn’t affect them in anyway until the sinuses are affected.

It took me couple of days to figure out how it all started. It was back in late 2007 when I moved to a different part of the building of my office. There used to be a AC duct right on top of my head. Initially, for several months, I had no problem with the cold air blowing on my head and face throughout the day but as time passed by, it had its impact on me. After almost 10 months of sitting in the same seat, I started facing some breathing problems after an hour I entered into the office. My nose was getting almost blocked and I was finding it very difficult to breath with my nose. I had to use my mouth very often to breath in and make myself comfortable. A month or two after that I got cold and when the cold was gone, the congestion remained and that’s when I visited an ENT doctor. The rest is history.

If you have recently developed similar problems or have started to experience breathing problem in last few weeks, here are my suggestions for you to avoid this problem from becoming into a serious issue in future. Make sure that you follow as much as you can, otherwise it can turn into a problem that will require clinical correction and long term medication.

Inspect the area where you sit in the office and try to change your seat. Choose an area where the cold air coming from the AC duct doesn’t hit your head and face directly.

If you can’t change your seat, starting wearing a cap and cover your head with it. If you can’t wear cap all the time, at least use it when you are at your desk.

In most offices, the conference rooms are usually much colder than the other areas of the office. Try to go early for meetings and occupy a chair that is not under the AC duct.

If you drive a car and use AC, change the direction of the blower such that it doesn’t blow cold air directly on your face. An hour of drive with AC blowing cold air on your face is more than enough to create an impact.

Try to avoid milk and milk based products for couple of months. On days when I don’t have milk in my breakfast, I have less congestion. The elements in milk produce strong anti bacteria agents in the body that help body produce mucus in the nose. Avoiding milk for sometime will be best for you.

All the above suggestions, except the last one about avoiding the milk, may be followed by anyone to avoid such breathing problems in future. If you have experienced this problem before and are cured now, please do let us know about the treatment you had followed. It will be helpful to our readers.

Have you started to wonder if there are cancer cells in your body? Almost every type of cancer is confirmed only after it’s diagnosed and run through a series of medical tests. The common symptoms of cancer are not known to everyone and therefore it’s hard to detect and prevent cancer in its early stages.

Now, some facts about cancer cells. Every person has cancer cells in their body. There is no effect of these cells unless they multiply to billions. The standard cancer tests can not detect them if they are not above a certain quantity in the body. After treatment of cancer, say lung cancer, if the doctor says that there are no more cancer cells in the body, it only means that their tests are not detecting the cancer cells because they are low in size. The cancer cells can occur anywhere between 5-10 times in a person’s lifetime.

We all have cancer cells in our body and there are several factors that causes cancer. Some of these factors include lifestyle, food, environment etc.

How to increase height after we stop growing? Are there any ways to increase our height? We keep growing in height till a certain age in our life and then stop growing any further. There are many products in the market that claim to increase height without any surgery or exercises. Do they really work? Let’s find out.

Increase height shoes

There are many such shoes in the market claiming to increase your height in just few weeks. The only problem is that these shoes don’t work. There is no medical basis for their claims. According to medical experts, once the growth plates in human body are fused, there is no way to grow them any further. Just by using shoes, one can not resume the growth, it’s just not possible.

Height increase exercises

Do you really think that any exercise will help you grow taller after you have crossed Epiphysis phase or after the growth plates have stopped growing? Well, there is no medical evidence to support this claim.

Other ways that are believed to help you increase your height are through yoga, surgery, hormones injections or supplements and height increase pills. None of them are known to work, at least to the point that there is no medical basis for any of these ways to actually work and help you grow taller.

Bottomline, once you have crossed the stage after which the growth plates (in arms and legs) do not grow any further, these exercises and shoes will also not work.

Most of us have a positive, negative or neutral attitude. The people in the working world fall into these three categories.

1. Neutral attitude: Defining word-Maybe

People with neutral attitudes are generally spectators of life. they watch life happen and observe others. They are afraid of change and avoid risks. They are often tired, detached and safe players.

2. Negative attitude: Defining word-No

People with negative attitude are critical about life. They always comment and complain about life’s happenings. They always find fault with others and are annoyed about change. They are often frustrated or pessimistic.

3. Positive attitude: Defining word-Yes

People with positive attitude embrace change and opportunities. They are open to risks and challenges and enjoy learning. They are ususally confident and optimistic about life.

Tips for Positive attitude

Here are five tips for acheiving and maintaining a positive attitude.

Monitor self talk. Recognize, stop, and restate negative words which come in your conversations. Reward yourself for having done that.

Stay in the present tense. Observe your thoughts. Spend most of your thoughts in present rather than past or future. Planning is effective but not worrying.

Talk to yourself in a calm way. Sort out the unreasonable and negative thoughts. Reframe your expectations if they are unreasonable.

Surround yourself with positive people. Separate from people who are always de-motivating you and disappointing you. Always try to maintain self-confidence, self-worth and energy.

If you cannot avoid negative or neutral people, try to change them by sharing your positive experiences. Always try to maintain a positive aura around you so that people will automatically approach you for help and suggestions.

Many of us live with fear of death and old age, fear of poverty, fear of death, fear of embarrassment, and fear of loss of loved ones and so on. How to tackle these fears and become emotionally strong? Read on.

We all know that we will become old and eventually death. But, why do we fear death and old age. The exact reason is yet unknown for this insecurity. However, fear of death and old age may arise from personal tragedies or past experiences.

Tips to overcome fear of death

Here are some tips to get out of fear of death and old age:

Start appreciating your age and health. Love yourself and appreciate your strengths like your education, job, family and good-health.

If you are in early thirties, this is the right time for you to plan ahead for the future. This is the golden period in your life and you can plan well to overcome the fear of death and old age.

If you are in your forties, start investing your age and experience. This is the beginning of a new era in your life. Reach out your friends, relatives and ex-colleagues, neighbors and so on. Refresh the relations and stay in touch. You will find a whole new set of activities and new meaning for your life.

If you are in your fifties or sixties, this is the right time to take the advantage of the wisdom and understanding. This is the perfect time to plan and move ahead.

Do not feel embarrassed about your physical appearance and age. The more you try to hide your age, the more you will reveal yourself.

Start a degree which you could not pursue in your educational period. Learning keeps you young and energetic mentally and have emotional strength.

Have a proper balanced diet to stay away from chronic illnesses. Practice yoga and meditation so that you feel fresh always. Exercise daily to stay fit.

Accept your illnesses. If you have been diagnosed with any illness like diabetes, High blood pressure or cancer, learn to live and manage the illnesses.

Create a support group or community of your own. The group may include people with similar fears and circumstances.

Do not fear growing older. You can plan to make and it better.

Remember that you alone can control your life. Master the art of living and do not fear the death or old age. Accept it!

A typical ‘home-office-computer-home’ day deprives us of Vitamin ‘L’ – love and laughter. How to get them back into our lives? Read on.

Busy schedules, tight deadlines, never ending meetings, business presentations keep us occupied for most of the day. The rest of the time we either watch TV or browse the net. In this monotonous and mundane day cycle, we tend to forget small essential things in life.

Money is essential for living. But, love, laughter and fun form the other key elements for a healthy and successful living. This vitamin ‘L’ keeps us away from anger, fear, despair and other negative emotions that threaten our body.

Researches suggest that you deserve at least an hour a day just for ‘yourself’. It may be reading a newspaper, a novel, gardening, exercising, and adapting a pet. The other activities can also include talking to your kids, calling your parents, reaching out friends, chatting with your spouse and so on.

Share your love and laughter with people around you. Cheer up the environment and reach out to people in their time of need. Try helping your friends, relatives and neighbors. It is better to find out an activity that will give you immense pleasure and recharge your emotions for a perfect day ahead.

Most men have a tendency to bottle up their emotions and feelings. This is one of the reasons why men live shorter. Women naturally let out their feelings by sharing them with their near ones. So, all the men out there should find a way to let out your feelings and lead a balanced life.
